PATTERNS AND FINISHES

All McMillan Fiberglass Stocks are available in molded-in solid colors, marbled or camouflage patterns. The finish is impregnated into the stock, so it won't chip, peel or become scratched like paint. Stocks are available in any solid color used in the camouflage patterns.

One of the more popular finishes, due to its durability, is the molded-in finish. The stock is made with the color impregnated into the Gel-Coat (the exterior surface). A corresponding color pigment is used in the resin, which gives the stock a uniform color throughout. This finish can come in a solid color, camouflage or marble. There are six basic camouflage patterns that are standard order items. Marble combinations are virtually limitless.

The marble finish is created by swirling two or three different colors into the surface of the stock. It can be used as an effective camouflage when using olive green and black. A competition-type finish can be red, white and blue.

When ordering remember that each finish is done by hand and that each is unique. It is impossible to exactly duplicate any particular marble finish. Also, the color will change shades somewhat, due to the mixing of colors while the swirling is done. Marble stocks may not be returned because of dissatisfaction with the color. However, you may opt to have us paint the stock at our regular price.

Because the finish is molded-in, it is strictly a utility-grade finish. The mold lines will show (mold lines are the lines that occur where the two halves of the mold come together). Also, some small imperfections, as well as sanding marks, may be visible.

McMillan does their best to make the finishes as attractive as possible; however, they are limited in what can be accomplished with molded-in colors. Solid colors, especially darker ones, produce the greatest challenge, whereas the camouflage patterns tend to look better because the various colors and shapes tend to hide imperfections. Marbled colors offer the best choice for creating a finished look with a molded-in color.

Polyurethane paint is the most durable and wear-resistant synthetic stock finish on the market today. This paint with its pebble grain finish is not only tough, but has a handsome appearance as well. McMillan stocks finished with this process are designed for the harsh conditions of the far North and Africa.
